Annual Halloween Spooktacular, a Frighteningly Good Time
It was a cool, dark night in late October when the Cincinnati Kiwanis club, potential members and guests
gathered for some good Halloween cheer. Neon Lites was kind enough to host our gathering - an assortment of witches,
a rocker, pirates, a nun, a tourist and many more. Check out the __ link to see the assortment of party goers, and
keep an eye out for the contest winners: Little Red Riding Hood and a fairy.
The food was excellent - dinner with more great pasta salad than we could eat, and an over abundance
of sweets even for a Halloween gathering. Nobody saved room to eat the apples that they bobbed. What to drink to wash
it down? Wine flown back from a trip to Portugal, hot apple cider with nutmeg and whip cream, and good fall beers were
all options.
After stuffing ourselves, the festivities continued on to a variety of activities. While bobbing for apples
and bingo were definitely hits (people were even playing four cards at once and eating their candy corn markers as they went),
the culminating activity was a game of charades with frightening skill from both teams. After successfully guessing all of
the Halloween related words from the judge, the teams came up with words and phrases for the opposite team to guess! Even
still, both teams could handle even the worst the other could offer - ghoul, coffin and even Nightmare on Elm Street.
Finally, the teams get a little looser in their connections to Halloween. One team overcame Saturday the Fourteenth
(a movie spoof on scary movies) to finally get the other team with Werewolves in London - capping the game and a
delightful evening.
I look forward to going back next year!
